Homer and Anchor Point
The Kenai Peninsula is all of Alaska’s diverse landscape in miniature with salmon streams, wetlands, salt marshes, coastal rainforests, alpine tundra, estuaries, bays and coves. The Kenai Peninsula has vast resources that allow communities on the Peninsula to enjoy robust economies. Homer is on the tip of the Peninsula, on the Kachemak Bay “Where the Land Meets the Sea.” Anchor Point is on the Sterling Highway, in the Anchor River valley, on bluffs overlooking Cook Inlet. Anchor Point is 20 minutes from Kachemak Bay.

Homer is a unique rural community. Listed as one of the Top 100 small Art Towns, the Homer Council on the Arts provides residents with opportunities to be involved in the arts through classes, workshops, galleries, museums, art competitions, an annual visiting writers forum, and live performances by the Kenai Peninsula Orchestra and at the Pier One Theater. For those who don’t want to hold a fishing pole, clams, mussels and oysters are easy to “catch.” Homer has a small boat harbor, with repair services, fuel and provisions available. Annual events in Homer include the King Salmon Tournament, Shorebird Festival, Kayak Festival and July 4th Halibut Tournament. Shopping opportunities in Homer range from unique Alaskan items made by local craftsmen to recreation gear and groceries. A walking trail winds through the downtown business district, past coffee houses, galleries, tour operators, a book store and services.
